‘Tis the Season. Get your dress on!

Prom/Wedding/graduation season has begun!  This means you need some awesome dresses for all of those events you have to attend.  I have my first wedding of the season to attend on Friday & I am so excited.  Thereafter, I have about 4 more to attend this summer.   Since the same people will be at most of these weddings, I will need a great selection of different dresses.  All of the weddings are so different too- one is in a castle, one is in South Beach, so I will definitely need a couple different looks.  Since my own wedding is coming up, I am definitely on a budget and do not have the money to go to a formal dress shop, pay for alterations, and end up pretty much broke.  So I am on a mission to find something right off the hanger at the mall.  Here are some great deals that I found!

Sunday’s Chicken Bruschetta

Sunday’s have always been family dinner night for me.  We all get together, make a delicious dinner and crack open a bottle of wine and just enjoy the rest of the weekend.  Tonight is no different, except I am cooking, not my mom.  Me & my fiance are having my mom, her boyfriend, and my brother over for dinner.  I know just the entrée that will make everyone happy.

Ingredients

  • 5 bonelesss/skinless chicken breasts
  • 5 tomato on the vine, chopped
  • 3 fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 box angel hair pasta

Directions: Marinate chicken for about a 1/2 hour in balsamic vinegar.  Grill chicken until cooked.  While still hot, add mozzarella cheese on top so that it melts.  Then add fresh basil, chopped tomatoes, and a little garlic.

Pasta: Add extra chopped tomatoes, basil, garlic, and olive oil to pasta.  Mix well and serve chicken on top of pasta.  Mangia!

This dish goes great with an Argentinian Malbec wine.

Corset your outfit

Corsets are not just for the lingerie drawer.  They make a beautiful, fashionable piece that really does a woman’s body justice.  The built-in push-up bra and the tight waist-line can give any girl a shape that will make heads turn.  The beauty of corsets is they can be as sexy or as classy as you want.  From black lace to subtle floral, there are so many options.  A perfect pair is a corset with a long blazer.  This look is impeccable for the chic woman.  And there is no stopping taking off the blazer later for a sexier look.  Every girl should have at least 1 or 2 corsets for a special item of clothing.

Creamsicle Martini

Thursday has historically been a great night to tease into the weekend.  As a UCONN alumni, I still have not kicked the “Thirsty-Thursday” mentality.  I just do it with a lot more class now.  (Fancy martinis instead of Nickel Night.)  Tonight I am having my best friend over so what can be more fun than some girl talk and a delicious cocktail?  I decided I am going to treat ourselves to some Creamsicle Martinis.  A perfect mix of fruity, creamy deliciousness.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 ounces orange-flavored vodka
  • 2 ounces Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • Splash of Orange Juice

Directions: Shake the vodka, Bailey’s in a martini shaker with ice to chill.  Add a splash of Orange Juice for color & flavor.  Pour into martini glass and garnish with an orange slice.  Enjoy!

Tee-time Father’s Day Cupcakes

Father’s Day is coming up & everyone loves cupcakes, right?  I certainly do.  For some reason they are so much more fun than cake because you can do so much more… and they are easy!  I have a Martha Stewart decorating kit on my registry & I am so excited to use it.  Many men in my life love golf and there are very few cupcakes that are not super girl.  These are the perfect cupcake for your dad, boyfriend, brother or any guy in your life.

What you’ll need:

  • vanilla or white cake mix
  • vanilla buttercream frosting
  • green food coloring
  • tooth pick
  • construction paper

Directions:

  • Bake cupcakes as directed on box.  Let cool.
  • Add about 10 drips of green food coloring to most of the frosting (save a small amount in white to use for making the “golf balls”) and keep adding until desired “greenness” is achieved.
  • Frost cupcakes with a decorative froster to make the texture raised like grass.  (if you do not have a frosting tool, you can make your own by cutting the corner of a zip-lock bag.)
  • Use the white frosting to make a small circle/dot to represent the golf ball
  • To make the flags, cut out small triangles with construction paper & glue them to the toothpicks.
  • Stick a flag in each cupcake and VOILA, you have the most masculine cupcake I’ve seen!
