Inspired by Food

Designers and artists are inspired by so many things around them– architecture, people in their lives, animals, and of course, food. The colors and seasonal flavors of food truly influence designers and their clothing and accessories. It’s no wonder why summer clothing is filled with citrus yellow and watermelon red, while fall is inspired by oaky red wines, pumpkins, and foliage.  I love how a Starbucks Caramel Swirl Latte can inspire a delicious pair of shorts like these cotton twill shorts by Emilio Pucci or the adorable Pink Jade Kate Spade flats that are bedazzled with watermelon seeds. One of the reasons I love to watch Project Runway is to see what inspires their designs in their weekly competitions.  It’s amazing how a true artist sees potential in everything around them.

summerstyle

Summer is by far my favorite season as well as one of the most stylish seasons for me.  I tend to do a lot in the summer such as weekend trips, boat trips & beach days so I have way too many summer clothes.  I wanted to share some of my favorite casual summer pieces.  All light-weight, comfy, and beautiful for the perfect summer day. Oh, and of course, my favorite summer shoes! What are your favorite summer pieces?

Fireworks

Fourth of July is by far my favorite holiday. BBQs food, fireworks popping from every direction, pool parties, and s’mores are just a few reasons I LOVE fourth of July. Hope everyone has a safe one. How will you be celebrating?

Trend Alert: High Waist Bottoms

It started with the “mom jeans,” the total antithesis of hip-huggers which were my go-to jeans in my teen years. At first, it took a while for mom jeans to grow on me, however, designers have really perfected the high-waist style to create a clean, crisp look. What I love about high-waisted shorts, jeans, and skirts is:
1. They accentuate your curves in the right places and keep everything into place. There is nothing falling out in the wrong places so they are super flattering.

2. I love crop tops! But I just had a babe so… high-waisted pants are the perfect solution if you want to where those adorable crop tops without showing a lot of tummy. Problem solved!

3. They elongate your legs. I am only 5’2 so I need all the help I can get. If you tuck in your shirt or pull off a crop top, the extra fabric that shows gives the illusion of longer, leaner legs. I’m sold!
