The Kimono

Kimonos have been in trend for a few years now but this spring and summer, there are even more styles that are easy to wear.  You don’t have to be indie-style to pull one off, either.  They are the perfect casual accessory and flattering on just about everyone.  Move over, cardigan, the Kimono is light as a feather and as edgy as Lorde.

The most fascinating thing about Kimonos is their history, which is a traditional Japanese garment. Kimono means “thing to wear” in Japanese and both men and women have worn them for centuries in Japan for special occasions and as statement pieces.

Easter traditions

I love the U.S. because it’s such a mixing pot of different cultures.  Growing up, I lived in a small city where people were from all over the world- Mexico, Poland, Russia, Puerto Rico, Nigeria and so on.  I always had a fascination with my friends’ family traditions and cultures.  Since my mom is from Poland and also a Catholic, one of our most important traditions is the blessing of the Easter baskets, which in Polish is called Swieconka.  This happens on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter) and  Saturday we take to=our decorated baskets to church, filled with sampling of traditional food to be blessed such as kielbasa, babka, eggs, pastries, and a chocolate or butter lamb representing the Lam of God.  It’s my favorite traditions because it brought our family together and my mom and her sisters would dress all the girls up in little dresses and bad haircuts as you can see below!

Daisy Does It

On the hanger, this daisy maxi looked frumpy, however I am so excited that after deciding to buy it, it’s such a versatile skirt. The high slits help add some edge to the skirt.  Over the weekend, I scored some amazing deals at the local outlets at Banana Republic, PacSun, and J. Crew. I tried on some things that I normally wouldn’t and was happy with the outcome.

What’s your most recent, out-of-your-comfort-zone purchase?

Spring Blooms

There are so many things I love about Spring and my two favorite things about this wonderful season are that my birthday is in April and I love Easter! I celebrated my birthday this weekend my family and friends and had the perfect balance of pampering & partying.

My family (on my mom’s side) is from Poland so Easter is all about kielbasa, delicious homemade Polish rye bread, and beautiful ornate Easter baskets that get blessed at our church. Below are a few favorites in my home this week; it definitely feels like Spring!

Ballerina Bun & Flannel

My idea of comfortable is a soft flannel shirt and some nice, worn-in jeans! Beautiful spring days call for taking Zoey everywhere I go, especially to the dog park.
