Panko Coconut Encrusted Tilapia

Everyone who knows me knows I despise fish.  Ever since I was a kid, I couldn’t stand the fishy smell or the texture.  I just started eating some seafood such as shrimp and calamari so I figured I would give fish another try.  I can’t say it was my favorite meal (simply because I am not a fan of fish) but it did bring out some flavor that I didn’t know existed in fish!

My goal in making fish was to “hide” the fishy taste.  I absolutely love coconut on everything so I decided coconut would be my main flavor.  I ended up with a nice, crunchy coconut/Panko breading that came out pretty good.  This is also very low-fat!

You will need:

  • 2 4 oz Tilapia
  • 1/2 cup Panko (Japanese style bread crumbs)
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Flakes
  • 1 egg
  • Dash of milk
  • fresh lemon wedge

Directions: Beat 1 egg and dash of milk together. Combine coconut and breadcrumbs together in separate bowl.
Roll tilapia in milk/egg mix and coat thoroughly with Panko and coconut mix. Squeeze fresh lemon for additional flavor.  Serves 2.

Wooster Street’s Pepe’s Pizza

The Original Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana

Pizza is my weakness -it’s the one food I cannot resist when I am on a diet.  The cheesy, saucy, doughy piece of heaven has always been a pleasure of mine.  So of course I have come to be somewhat of a pizza connoisseur, trying world-famous pizzas any chance I can get.  My favorite to date has been a homemade pizza made by my Mom’s boyfriend’s sister (got that?) that is 100% Italian.  It has somewhat of a sweet tomato sauce and tastes like no other pizza I ever had. Needless to say, I always request the special pizza at family picnics.

Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny Sunday spent with my lovely Dad who I get the Italian half from.  (The other half is Polish.)  I definitely inherited my Dad’s taste buds because I prefer an italian pizza with extra extra sauce any day over pierogis or stuffed cabbage.  My dad and I have the same love for pizza and he wanted to take me out for New Haven-style pizza right on Wooster Street, New Haven–Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana “Pepe’s”.   Pepe’s is one of the oldest and well-known pizzerias in the United States.  Frank Pepe Pizzeria was founded in 1925 by Frank Pepe, an italian immigrant.

I had heard so much about Pepe’s Pizza but was the hype real?  Absolutely.  The crispy, brick-oven toasted crust accompanied by a doughy middle and perfect sauce and cheese mix was absolutely amazing.  I tried the plain and also had a piece of my dad’s with bacon and onion which was also mouth-watering.  They also serve Foxon Park soda which is locally made here in CT.  The entire ambiance makes you feel like you are in a 1950’s pizza place.  I hear the pizza is just as good at all of their locations but I felt authentic having Pepe’s Pizza at the original location in New Haven.

Tips: Go at awkward times in the day (we went at 3pm) to avoid lunch and dinner rushes, epseically on weekends.  Also, you can go to “The Spot” right behind Pepe’s which also serves the same pizza but not many people know about it.  Mangia!

Jersey but Classy

So I know I am not the only one addicted to the Jersey Shore & Jerseylicious.  We all like to hate on their way-too-heavy makeup and crazy outfits but there is a little bit of Jersey in all of us.  In order to Jersify yourself, you’ve got to set limits.  I know that I cannot pull off the HUGE bump on my head to I have deleted that from the equation for me.  We do not want to look like we are in a Snooki costume but we can all use a little Tee-shirt time once in a while. 🙂

A couple MUSTS for a Jersey but Classy look:

  • bright eyeshadow
  • big hoops
  • great push-up bra
  • hairspray
  • fake eyelashes or really good mascara
  • an awesome House music CD to get you fist pumpin’ the night away
  • killer heels
  • a great bronzer

Snooki's infamous bump- a look not all of us can pull off

A really good push-up bra (or surgery) is needed to get Jwowws look

Go Nude

Going nude is definitely a very sexy think to do.  While watching American Idol last night I absolutely loved Jennifer Lopez’s nude lip stick.  It is so sexy to have nude makeup on as well as nude colored clothing.  By wearing nude colors, you are really letting others focus on your features and this can be a very natural yet sexy look.  I have put together an amazng outfit that is ALL nude and it is amazing.  Ladies, go NUDE today! 🙂

Dress your Guy Up

I am sitting in a cafe, thinking about what I should write for my next post and all I could hear is these guys talking about trading stocks.  I don’t know about you but when I picture stockbroker I think sharp, NYC fashion, think Michael Douglas in Wall Street.  However, these men had on suits that looked about 10 years old and no real style that made them look like they can take on the world.  This inspired me to help you ladies spruce up your guy’s wardrobe.  A couple new items in a guy’s closet can give him confidence and class.  I for one do not date a metrosexual so I have helped my fiance go from his cute college dorm look to a sexy businessman.

Below are a couple of looks I love- best dresses men with a great fashion sense (doesn’t hurt they they are all good-looking either)… some great inpspiration for your man’s new style!
